The word “Tabernacle” in Hebrew “מִשְׁכַּן”, means “dwelling”. It was a portable tent used only as a place of worship for the Israelites during the period of wandering that preceded their arrival in the Promised Land and worshipped the Lord in the temple of Jerusalem (1 Kings 6). It was called also by other names such as, “tabernacle of the congregation”, “wilderness tabernacle”, “tent of witness” and “Tabernacle of the Lord”.
